Teaching Tolerance hosted by EdHub STL @ Innovation Hall

EdHub STL is bringing free Teaching Tolerance workshops to Innovation Hall this summer! Attend one or all three days as the Teaching Tolerance team facilitates the following workshops June 11th-13th; Social Justice Teaching 101, Facilitating Critical Conversations and The Teaching Tolerance Curriculum.

June 11th: Social Justice Teaching 101

Participants will learn to:

  • Incorporate the Teaching Tolerance Social Justice Standards to create and sustain classroom and school environments that honor diversity, equity and justice.
  • Speak up—and teach students to speak up—against bias and injustice.
  • Build a collaborative and respectful learning community with a diverse group of learners and educators.

Who should attend:

  • K-12 educators, administrators, counselors, curriculum specialists/coaches
  • Pre-service K-12 educators

June 12th: Facilitating Critical Conversations

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify strategies and resources to create a positive and respectful learning environment where critical conversations can take place.
  • Reflect on personal assumptions and learned biases and recognize their impact on classroom practice.
  • Develop skills and confidence for engaging in and facilitating conversations about race and other critical topics.

Who should attend:

  • K-12 educators, administrators, counselors, curriculum specialists/coaches
  • Pre-service K-12 educators

June 13th: The Teaching Tolerance Curriculum

Objectives:

  • Describe the goals of anti-bias education and apply them to practice.
  • Explore the anti-bias texts and practice diverse text selection.
  • Explore literacy-based instructional strategies and assessment tasks and explain their alignment with content standards and critical literacy.
  • Integrate the Social Justice Standards and Perspectives texts into existing classroom and school climate materials.
  • Build a complete Learning Plan using the texts, teaching strategies and students tasks within the Teaching Tolerance Curriculum.

Who should attend:

  • Current or pre-service K-12 ELA/English and Social Studies/History teachers only

All workshops will be held from 9am-4pm, lunch provided and registration is required.
